About Steve

Meet Steve

A 5th generation Central Texan, servant and experienced leader—ready to serve TX-31

Why is Steve exploring a run for Congress?

Steve Dowell, a 35-year old Veteran and Major in the U.S. Army Reserve (IRR)*, is exploring a run for Congress in TX-31, his home district. He is a lifelong conservative, Christian, and ambassador for the American—and Texan—way of life.

If he runs, Steve will seek his first term in Congress to grow the Conservative majority and advance policies aligned with Conservatism’s seven core principles: individual freedom, limited government, the rule of law, peace through strength, fiscal responsibility, free markets, and human dignity.

Before exploring a run for Congress, Steve served over 8 years as an active-duty U.S. Army Military Police Officer and War Planner, and 3 years as a senior product manager at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle and Austin. He received an Army Commendation for leading pandemic planning at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in 2020 and broke records two years in a row while overseeing Amazon’s national inventory for Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas. An experienced crisis leader and planner, he is committed to serving and delivering results to the People.

Since returning home in 2022, Steve has witnessed federal shortfalls: Veterans disrespected and turned away at local VA hospitals; a delayed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) response after the 2024 Temple tornados; delayed FEMA search-and-rescue after the 2025 Central Texas floods; and the squeeze of rising taxes despite record federal spending and debt. Steve—and our district—has had enough. Having served in Europe and Asia, he knows that if government rules unchecked and without regard for our People’s lives, our freedoms and rights will be stolen. He refuses to allow this and stands with conservatives who expect and demand accountability.

Steve, a Product of TX-31

Steve is a home-grown product of Texas’s 31st Congressional District, the son of a working-class family and farmers whose roots stretch across Central Texas since 1907. A graduate of Moody High School and Baylor University, he played sports and competed in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) with nearly every town in the district—from Thrall to Hico, Troy to Marble Falls—and everywhere in between. He is passionate about being Central Texas’s voice in Washington.

Conservatism is making a roaring comeback, despite both elitists and progressive leftists having tried and failed to snuff out our traditions, values, and principles. Steve is relentless in holding the federal government accountable for protecting America, our families, and Veterans—from culture-eroding ideologies, dangerous drugs flowing through an unsecured border, and big government forcing its will on the People.

A tenacious advocate for shrinking government and national debt, Steve knows how to rein in multi-billion-dollar budgets from his time at Amazon and will bring the same data-driven cost-cutting to Washington—without breaking vital services. As TX-31’s Next Generation Conservative, he will stand with conservatives everywhere to take on big government.

As a Veteran, Steve defended Americans overseas by developing and practicing our most sensitive war plans against our Big Five Enemies—China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, and Islamic Extremists. As TX-31’s Next Generation Conservative Veteran exploring a run for Congress, he will continue to stand with conservatives to put American interests first, maintaining peace through strength, and advancing American influence globally.

Steve, on a more Personal Note

Steve accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as a teenager at the Heart of Texas Baptist Camp in Brownwood—where he developed a strong personal understanding of God’s purpose for him. A licensed private pilot, Steve is an aviation enthusiast and lover of flight. The only child of his father—a Temple industrial mechanic, planner, and self-taught Indian artifacts expert—and of his mother—who managed finances and worked odd jobs to do more than just make ends meet—Steve learned early the values of hard work, fiscal responsibility, and the stresses of the common man and woman. Awarded a Commander’s Scholarship from the Air Force before transitioning to the Army, Steve earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Baylor University in 2013 and his MBA in Aviation from Embry-Riddle University Worldwide in 2021 while still on active duty. He and his partner Tim, a professionally trained bakery chef and staunch conservative, have been together since 2021 and reside in Bell County.
